2011 Australia Day honours
In this year's Australia Day honours, the following people from NSW CLCs were recognised:
Helen Campbell, Medal (OAM) in the General Division
For service to the law, and to the community of Redfern.
As many members will know, Helen has a longstanding commitment to community issues and social justice. Currently she is CEO at Womens Legal Service NSW. Prior to this, she was CEO at Redfern Legal Centre for 8 years. Helen started work in the sector at the Blue Mountains Community Legal Centre (now Elizabeth Evatt CLC) in 1989 and has been an enthusiastic member of a great many boards of management. For three memorable years from December 2007, Helen was Chairperson of Community Legal Centres NSW.
Maree O'Halloran, Member (AM) in the General Division
For service to industrial relations, and to the education sector, through a range of representative roles.
Maree is the Director of Welfare Rights Centre and President of the WR Network. Prior to coming to WRC, she was President of the NSW Teachers Federation. Maree has also served on the Management Committee of the Blue Mountains Community Legal Centre.
CLCNSW extends its congratulations to Helen and Maree on their awards, which are well-deserved recognition of the contributions they have made to their communities.
CLCNSW also extends its congratulations to other CLC people around Australia who also received awards.
