Getting Disaster Ready: Training 2026-27
Ahead of the 2026-27 higher risk weather season, we're hosting this series of training sessions to prepare the legal assistance sector for supporting disaster impacted communities.
Working with Disaster-Impacted Aboriginal Communities
Ahead of the higher risk weather season, Community Legal Centres NSW is partnering with Aboriginal Legal Service NSW/ACT to deliver Working with Disaster-Impacted Aboriginal Communities as part of our Getting Disaster Ready training series.
This session delivered by Shantell Bailey, Principal Solicitor of Civil Law at the Aboriginal Legal Service NSW/ACT, will cover the best practice for working with Aboriginal communities following disasters, including the common legal issues faced by community members.

Trauma-Informed Practice in Disasters
Ahead of the higher risk weather season, Community Legal Centres NSW is partnering with Knowmore Legal Service to deliver Trauma-Informed Practice in Disasters as part of our Getting Disaster Ready training series.
This session is essential for any workers interested in assisting communities impacted by disaster. Following disasters, people are experiencing stress, crises and trauma. It is important that everyone working with disaster-impacted clients has a thorough understanding of trauma-informed practice. It is equally important to understand how to take care of yourself when working with clients experiencing stress and trauma.

Quarterly network meetings
We also have 22 sector networks that cover a range of topics and meet quarterly in February, May, September and November each year. Join a network to share knowledge and experiences, provide peer support in complex areas, hear from guest presenters, coordinate advocacy, and develop joint strategies for improving clients' experiences of the justice system.
